Understanding Pokémon card condition
Compare Pokémon card condition codes from Mint to Poor and learn what to inspect in front and back photographs before choosing a physical copy.
Use the condition code as a starting point
Condition describes the individual physical card, not every copy of that card. Two copies with the same name and number can have different wear. Read the listing’s condition code together with its front and back photographs.
The descriptions below explain the condition labels used in this store. A condition label is not a third-party grading score, and a freshly opened pack does not guarantee a Mint card.
Compare corners, edges and surfaces
Inspect all four corners and the edges on both sides. Look for whitening, rounded corners, scratches and visible bends or creases. Compare the photographs at a useful size rather than relying only on the catalogue thumbnail.
A photograph may not make every surface detail clear. When a mark or reflection is difficult to interpret, ask for clarification before buying. Choose the exact copy whose visible appearance meets your expectations.
Choose condition for your own collection
A lightly worn card may fit a collection where affordability matters more than perfect appearance. A display collection may place greater importance on clean corners and surfaces. Decide which defects you are comfortable with before comparing prices.
Use the catalogue’s condition filter to narrow your options, then return to the exact-copy photographs. The photographs and individual listing details take priority over reference artwork.
Mint
No visible wear under careful inspection. A freshly opened pack does not guarantee this condition.
Near Mint
Minimal wear, such as a tiny edge mark. Crisp corners and a clean surface without creases.
Excellent
Light edge wear or small surface marks. Overall appearance remains clean and attractive.
Good
Noticeable edge or surface wear. Refer to the listing’s photos for the exact appearance.
Light Played
Visible signs of handling and play, including light scratches and corner wear. No major structural damage.
Played
Significant wear from play, potentially including bends or small creases. Check all listing photos.
Poor
Heavy damage, creases or other substantial defects. Suitable when condition is less important to your collection.
